Helen Terise Colter

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Terise Colter, aged 76.  She died peacefully on August 11th, 2025 in Fredericton, NB.  Helen was born on June 2nd , 1949 in Malartic, Quebec, to the late John and Laura (MacDonnell) MacLean.

Helen’s life was rich with passions that reflected her sharp mind (she attained her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education in three short years), creative spirit, and generous heart. She was a gifted card player; she achieved international success by winning the European Bridge Mixed Pairs Championship in 2005 in Tenerife, a highlight in a long love affair with the game. She brought the same strategic skill and joy for friendly competition in poker and blackjack, where she delighted in both the challenge and the camaraderie. Away from the card table, Helen found joy on the golf course, the ski slopes, in the pages of a good book, or with a microphone in hand during a lively karaoke night.

Her creativity flowed through her love of art and painting, and in her garden, where flowers bloomed under her care. Helen had a deep appreciation for history, a lifelong affection for animals, and above all, her greatest source of pride and joy was her family, her beloved children and grandchildren.

Helen will be dearly missed by her husband, George Colter; her children, Jonas Colter (Jessica Johnston), David ”Beau” Colter, Victoria Colter (Nolan Pickerill), Geoff Colter (Rachelle Colter), Jamie Colter (Neely Colter), and Joey Colter. She will be fondly remembered by her siblings, Elizabeth “Betty” Fortunato (Franco), Victoria “Vicky” MacLean, William “Billy” MacLean (Sylvie MacLean) and Cathy Ruck (Ted Ruck) ; her 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild, as well as her cherished nieces and nephews.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date.  Donations may be made to your local SPCA.
