I am saddened to hear of the loss of my first cousin Jon Doucet,Johnny as we always called him.
When we were young we spent a lot of time together being so close in age ,at the farm and at the beach.
Lionel, John’s dad and my uncle taught us all to swim at the same time. He showed us how to dothev dog paddle and made us all swim to him over and agin until we were successful.
I remember one summer day after a walk in the woods near our farm ,I told my mom I was going t marry John..My mom swiftly explained I could not marry my first cousin.
We went off to university and lost track after that:
Once, when I was returning to Acadia via hitchhiking,we got out of a car at the exit to the Annapolis Valley,.
I looked across the road and there was John hitch hiking in the opposite way returning to St FX. I was delighted to see him although a very short encounter.
I have felt heavy hearted since hearing of his loss. This is no way near what my other cousins must be feeling,Maribeth and John’s children. You have lost a wonderful father I know because I knewJohn.
My thoughts go out to you all at this very sad time,
