Obituary of Wendy Elizabeth Creighton
WENDY ELIZABETH CREIGHTON, age 78, of Fredericton, NB, died on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at home, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer. Wendy was born in Halifax, NS on October 14, 1946. She is the youngest of the seventh generation descendants of James Creighton who arrived in Halifax in 1749, one of the Halifax founding families.
Wendy was a very independent woman who raised two beautiful, successful daughters entirely on her own. She was an intelligent and cheerful lady with a strong, meticulous and efficient work ethic. Wendy entered the workforce early in life and was the first female senior credit representative for Texaco Canada Inc. in the 1970s. She held various financial positions in insurance and in the federal government, retiring from ACOA in 2000. Those who worked with her knew they could never pull a fast one; she was quick to spot any errors or anomalies, and quick to ask questions.
In retirement she worked tirelessly and diligently in various volunteer roles bringing about significant improvements and positive changes in her community: a member of the Fredericton Branch of the National Association of Federal Retirees (FSNA); Oromocto Planning Advisory Committee (PAC); creation and development of the Oromocto Pioneer Gardens Cemetery; participated in the Fredericton Age Friendly Committee; to name a few. She was a friend of Lois for over 50 years.
She enjoyed socializing with a group of her former work colleagues (RIPA girls). She rarely passed up an opportunity to dine out with friends, attend a show at The Playhouse or catch a movie. She loved to travel and took numerous trips to both the US and Europe. She never met a pun she didn’t like or a chocolate she didn’t enjoy.
Her favourite pastimes included reading books, watching the news, and catching up with her friends, near and far. Her guiding wisdom and keen sense of humour will be sorely missed.
Wendy is survived by her two loving daughters, Mickie Zinck (Kevin), of Dartmouth, NS and Tina Asselin (Dale Myers), of Winchester, ON; one sister, Nancy O’Brien, of Halifax, NS; one brother, Brian (Susie), of Poole, Dorset, England; niece, Rev. Jane Doull (retired), St. Andrews, NB; nephew Andrew, Halifax, NS; and niece Sara, Jeddore, NS. She was predeceased by her parents, H Terry and Rita A (Bailey) Creighton, an older brother, David, in 2010, former partner, George Anstey in 1995, and the father of her children, Christopher Johnson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 7, from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 8 at 2:00 pm, both at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York St, Fredericton, NB. In lieu of flowers, Wendy prefers donations be made to Dying With Dignity Canada or Pancreatic Cancer Canada. Interment will be in Halifax at a later date.
