Obituary of Reta Myrtle Colpitts
With heartfelt sadness, the family of Reta Myrtle Colpitts announces her passing on March 5th, 2025 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on December 29th, 1935, in Jemseg, NB, she was the daughter of late Walter Wetmore Wasson and Sara Myrtle (Clark) Wasson, and the devoted wife of Wayne Colpitts.
Reta will be deeply missed by her dear husband, Wayne Colpitts; loving children, Kelly [Colpitts] Downe (Sheldon), Shawn Colpitts (Maia), Chris Colpitts (Carolyn); adored grandchildren, Ryan (Kayla), Patrick (Jeannine), Olivia, Madison, Kate, Victoria, Cameron, Sterling, Tatum; and precious great-grandchildren, Lennon and Ramsey.
Reta is survived by her sisters-in-law, Jane Wasson, Pauline Colpitts, Nancy Colpitts, along with several nieces and nephews. Reta was predeceased by her parents, as well as her older brothers, Aubrey (Roberta), Arnold (Violet), Waldo (Eleanor), Roland (Anna), Avard (Roberta) and Dana Wasson.
In 1961, Reta and Wayne were married. As a devoted homemaker, Reta took pride in raising and caring for her three wonderful children. Once they were grown, she embarked on a career as a communication clerk at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. There, her exceptional skills in communication and organization flourished. Her grace, dedication, and professionalism earned her the respect of colleagues and lasting friendships.
Anyone who knew Reta knew she was a proud, spirited woman with a heart as big as her personality. She always made sure those she loved were cared for and thriving. A true social butterfly, Reta was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi for many years and found joy in connecting with others. She loved playing bridge with friends, expressing her creativity through rug hooking, and tending to her vegetable garden. Never one to sit still, Reta embraced new technology to stay connected. She was also an avid cheerleader for her beloved Toronto Raptors and, more recently, the Taylor Swift’s Chiefs.
Reta’s quick wit, unwavering strength in the face of life’s challenges, and warm, comforting hugs will be dearly missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Above all, Reta’s greatest joy was her family. She was happiest watching her grandchildren play sports and treasured every moment spent at Grand Lake, surrounded by those she loved.
The family would like extended a very special thank you to Dr. Jeff Barton, Reta’s devoted family physician, who went above and beyond to provide exceptional care during her time of need. His compassion, generosity and steadfast support not only brought comfort to Reta but also made a profound difference to her family, and for that, the family is eternally grateful.
In keeping with Reta’s wishes, a visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Monday, March 17th, 2025, from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm, followed by a funeral at 3:30 pm.
For those who wish, donations in Reta’s memory may be made to the NBSPCA and the Canadian Cancer Society.
