My condolences to John's family at his passing. I first encountered John as my prof in my Econ 1000 class, a subject that often seemed to be quite mysterious to us engineering students or at least to me. Later as a grad student and a colleague John provided a practical overview of the intersection of engineering and economics as it related to the transport problem. John was a longstanding and valued part of the Transportation Group at UNB.

I had the great opportunity to meet Professor Brander during my time at the UNB Transportation Group from 1996 to 2001. He was a great educator and an amazing human being. Rest in peace Professor Brander.

To all of John’s extended family,
I was one of John’s Transportation Group students in the 70’s… John was a good prof interested in his students and challenging us a lot. He knew his stuff…
Anne and I saw John at UNB about a year ago and had a great chat reminiscing about the Transportation Group days. Our work after UNB is in part the work of our profs — through us. The list is long of things John contributed in that regard.
Sincere condolences to you all
Anne and Doug Johnson

While I have many fine memories of John, in class and at social functions, I trust John's family have their own incredible memories to help them through this difficult time. John Brander will be missed.

Professor John Brander was a great educator, and a great mentor to many of us in the UNB Transportation Group in the late 1970's. He taught us (or at least tried to teach us!) that economics was not just "the dismal science" - it was a way of assembling and analyzing facts and data points to develop and test policy and business strategies. John was also a great friend and colleague, who kept us rambunctious engineers on the straight and narrow during our annual trips to the Transportation Research Board meetings in Washington DC. All best wishes to his Family during this challenging time. Paul Miller, M Sc E, UNB Transportation Planning and Engineering.

John was my teacher, colleague, and friend. He touched the lives of many of our graduate students who studied transportation engineering and planning. To Bev, Rob and his family I am sorry for your loss but he had a life well lived.
