Obituary of Ruth Ann Goodine Amos
It is with profound sadness that the family of Ruth Ann Goodine Amos, age 64, announces her peaceful passing on March 24, 2025 in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
Born January 11, 1961, Ruth was the third of four children born to Haley and Carolyn Goodine. She was raised in Perth Andover, New Brunswick, and moved to Fredericton to pursue an education in nursing at the University of New Brunswick (UNB, class of ‘82). Her education and nursing career was one of her proudest achievements, having worked in many hospital units, teaching at UNB, and especially her final years of work at Public Health. She took great pride in championing young nurses and providing guidance to many young folks who thought of her as a mentor. Ruth was an exemplary woman who embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, steadfast faith, strength of spirit and an unending generosity that could be seen in the way she cared for others. Ruth was known to be creative and could often be found reading, writing poetry or journaling, scrapbooking, enjoying music, or even creating stained glass. Her greatest treasures in life were her children, and her black labs. She will be remembered as a faithful friend who loved getting lost on a hike, tapping her toes to good music, and going on spontaneous weekend adventures.
Most of all, Ruth will be remembered for her incredible faith which carried her (and countless others) through many hardships and allowed her to keep a positive mindset even in the most difficult times. She said many times that if any challenge in her life was helpful to even one person, she was thankful to endure it. Her unwavering spirituality and devotion to prayer carried her until her final days on Earth. Through her cancer journey, she taught those around her what it looks like to live with fierce faith and courage, always filled with joy and wearing a smile. Ruth will forever be a bright, guiding light to her family and loved ones. Ruth’s radiant spirit is so proudly carried on by her beloved children Kiersten (Alexander) Tigert of Stratford, ON, and Camden (Gabrielle) Amos, of Ottawa, ON. She is survived by her three brothers, Gerald Goodine (Blair Matheson) of Fredericton, Daniel Goodine of Perth Andover, Kenneth Goodine (Patty) of Dauphin, MB, and her dear mother, Carolyn Goodine of Perth Andover. She was gladly greeted in heaven by many loved ones, but especially by her dear dad, Haley Goodine (1919-2008), her sister-in-law, Wanda Goodine (1952-2021), and her beloved four-legged friends. She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews, dear friends, cousins, and her church congregation.
Ruth and her family have immense gratitude for her wonderful care team, including Dr. M. Kenney, Dr. Galvis & the oncology team, Dr. Daigle-Maloney, the extra-mural program with special thanks to Tannis, and a special shout out to her incredible nursing crew who supported her at home. Finally, we will always be deeply grateful to the wonderful team of care providers at Hospice House for their kindness, compassion, and support.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, March 27th at Smythe Street Church. Visitation will be held from 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Wednesday, March 26th, at McAdam’s Funeral Home in Fredericton.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to either a bursary established in Ruth’s honour, which will support nursing students in need at the University of New Brunswick (please direct donations to the Ruth Goodine Amos Memorial Nursing Bursary online at unb.ca/memorialgift or telephoned to 506-447-3122), or to Hospice House Fredericton.
