Obituary of Marguerite Landry Cool
It is with great sadness that the family of Marguerite Landry Cool announces her passing on Tuesday, May 6th, 2025, at Medley Hall in Fredericton, New Brunswick, after a brave battle with Parkinson’s Disease Dementia.
She was born in Caraquet, NB to the late Edmond J. Landry and the late Winnifred Asselin.
Marguerite is survived by her loving husband of almost 56 years, Donat Cool; daughter, Renée (Peter), and grandchildren, Jeffrey and Kate. She also leaves behind her brothers and sisters: Laura (Mathias Stevers) of Moncton, Winnie (Alfred Losier) of Dieppe, Gertrude (Gérald Landry) of Caraquet, Jérémie (Martha) of Caraquet and Martin (Paulette) of Caraquet, and sisters-in-law, Mérilda (pre-deceased Théo Landry), and Odette Mallet (pre-deceased Gilbert Landry and Marcelle Cormier). She is pre-deceased by her brothers, Edmond, Gilbert, James, Théodore and Maurice, as well as two brothers at a young age, Ronald and Martin.
Marguerite pursued her studies in Rimouski, Quebec, where she made many long-time friends. She and Donat lived in Bathurst for over 50 years before moving to Fredericton to be closer to their daughter and her family five years ago.
Marguerite was very proud of her 33-year career as a Home Economics teacher. She’d proudly announce, "I taught restaurant cooking" to every restaurant she attended in her later years. For those that were part of her circle of friends, family, and acquaintances, they were the lucky ones to receive a box of a variety Christmas baking, that included over 50 different recipes which she’d started preparing in November. She loved to talk and could always be found chatting at parties and gatherings. She enjoyed receiving friends at their home and wooing them with her nice meals. She taught for 33 years, 28 of which were at Ecole Secondaire Nepisiguit (ESN), in Bathurst. She was a very proud lady, always dressed to the nines. She enjoyed shopping trips to Quebec City, and eating some of her favorite desserts at Nourci. She was highly intelligent and would always aim for "A's", and nothing less. She put many hours into pursuing her education. Some of her favorite music included classical music: Pavarotti, the Three Tenors, Charles Aznavour and Eme Lacroix and Donat Lacroix.
Marguerite enjoyed travelling; cruising, bus tours in Europe and her favorite Rimouski, Quebec vacations.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Medley Hall who cared for Marguerite during her time at the nursing home.
No visitation will be held, but a private funeral service will be held at J.A. McAdam’s Memorial Chapel, with Fr. Peter Melanson to officiate. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Parkinson Canada or Greener Village Food Bank.
