Obituary of Rick Wightman
The family of Rick Wightman is heartbroken to announce his passing on May 9, 2025, at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton, New Brunswick, after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. Rick was born on December 27, 1962, to the late Bob and Nancy (Clement) Wightman, in Durham, England.
Rick will be sadly missed by his wife, Lori (Hay) Wightman of Fredericton; his children, Jerry, Jake and Dylan Wightman of Fredericton; sister, Wendy (Gord) Connell of Strathroy, ON; brothers-in-law, Larry Hay (Bev) of Bedford, NS, and David Hay (Tina), of Dartmouth, NS; nieces and nephews, Sarah and William Connell, Geoff (Elainey), Ryan, Alli and Erin Hay, and Carolyn Hall (Cody); great nieces, Camden, Cori and Casey; great nephew, Finley, and several cousins. Rick also leaves behind some of the most loyal and supportive friends a person could ask for.
The Wightman family would like to say thank you to Dr. Tim Snell, the team at the DECRH Oncology Clinic, the exceptional nurses from the NB Extra-Mural Program, the medical and support team in the Palliative Care Unit at DECRH, and the Palliative Care doctors who have supported us throughout this past year. A special thank you to Dr Gordon McDonald, who helped us navigate these very difficult last few weeks.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York St., Fredericton, on Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at Brunswick Street Baptist Church in Fredericton on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Kevin Culberson officiating. If you plan to attend the Celebration of Life, the family encourages you to wear bright colours in honour of Rick.
For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Fredericton Community Kitchen, NB African Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.
