Obituary of Raymond Wade Mather

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond “Ray” Wade Mather on Thursday May 29, 2025 at Hospice House, Fredericton. He was 77 years old.

Ray is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Connie (Dubé); his daughter, Andrea Mather, of Fredericton; his stepson, Troy Clarke of Moncton; his brother, David Mather of Montreal, PQ; his brother-in-law, Richard Dubé (David Schinkel), of Toronto, ON; his cherished granddaughter, Hannah Sharpe (Declan Davies); his very good friend, Brent Sharpe; his best buddy, Brodie; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Ray was predeceased by his parents, William and Norma (Hall); brothers and sisters-in-law, Gordun (Ann), Leonard (Gwendolyn) and Kenneth (Dorothy).

In his early career, Ray was a proud member of the RCMP as well as York Regional Police Force while living in Ontario.  Upon moving back to Fredericton, he was employed by the Province of NB with the Dept. of Environment.  In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, cycling the trails with Connie, walking his buddy Brodie and reading extensively.

Ray and Connie enjoyed travelling to the sunny south with family and friends to such destinations as Cuba, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.  In 2005, they boarded the Rocky Mountaineer in Banff, AB, travelling to the west coast of BC.  They enjoyed spending time with Gordon and Ann as well as other family members, in Port Coquitlam.

The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, during Ray’s time there.  We are also grateful for the care and compassion given Ray and his family during his short stay at Hospice House.  It goes without saying that it takes wonderful, caring people to work in this profession.  We are also thankful for family, friends, and neighbours, for their love, compassion and understanding during Ray’s journey with Lewy Body Dementia.  Keeping with Ray’s wishes, there will no visitation or service.

For those who wish, donations in his memory made to Hospice House Fredericton would be most appreciated.
