Obituary of Anna Elizabeth Allen

Anna Elizabeth (Merryweather) Allen, 84, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Monday, June 9, 2025, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born in Fredericton on January 1, 1941, she was the wife of the late George Allen.

Anna leaves behind her daughters, Angela Edlington (Scott), Wendy Shantz (Dave), and “Third Daughter”, Susie Hughes (late Greg); stepdaughters, Sandra Foster (Dave) and Susan Yavis-Allen (late Conrad); grandchildren, Eryn (Mark), Jordan (Samantha), Sara, Samuel, Colin (Caitlin), and Zain; great grandchildren, Nyah, Ava, Sally, Poppy, Kade, Eleanor and a few on the way; brother, Daniel Merryweather (late Fran). In addition to her husband, George, Anna was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Blanche (Prince) Merryweather; brother, Bobby Merryweather; sister, Beulah Seymour.

Anna’s greatest joy in life was the time she spent with her family and friends. She and George shared a love of travel and adventures. Whether it be weekends at the camp, adventures in the US, or trips to visit family, throughout their time together they created many memories. She cherished her grandchildren and she and George loved spending time with them creating memories. She made lifelong connections wherever she went and her friendships spanned decades and distances. The shenanigans of her lifelong friends (Bev, Isabelle, Leigh, Mona) are legendary. She loved her family and delighted in spending time with them, carrying on the tradition of 550 Charlotte as the gathering place filled with love, warmth and laughter. Simply put, Anna was home to those who knew and loved her.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that her love continues to live on in the many lives she touched.  She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Our sincerest thanks and appreciation to Dr. Kelsey Cameron as well as the nurses of 4SE for the excellent care Anna received.

A private family graveside service will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in Anna’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
