Obituary of Sally Dorothy Moore
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected but peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Sally Dorothy Moore, on June 15, 2025, at her home in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
Born in Rochdale, England, Sally came to Canada as a young girl with her parents, Harold and Dorothy Ravenscroft, and her sister, Anne. She grew up with a deep sense of wonder about the world around her, a spirit that stayed with her for life. She was predeceased by her husband and best friend, Richard Moore, in 1999. Though she deeply grieved this loss, she carried on with grace and resilience.
Sally was a lifelong educator—first as a teacher at Oromocto High School, and later as a guidance counsellor at both Oromocto and Leo Hayes High Schools. She had a gift for listening with empathy, truly seeing people, and gently helping them find their way.
She was known by all who met her for her radiant smile, open-hearted warmth, and her innate kindness, which she carried like a quiet light, wherever she went. Sally also had a playful sense of adventure and was always “up for anything,” whether it was a swim, a spontaneous trip, or trying something new just for the fun of it.
In her retirement, Sally travelled the world, collecting stories and friendships along the way. She was also a familiar face at the YMCA, where she found community, laughter, and many hours of conversation.
She is deeply missed and forever loved by her children, Jennifer, Gavin, and Alison; her son-in-law, Andrew; and her treasured grandsons, Charlie and James. She also leaves behind stepmother, Lois Ravenscroft; brother, David Ravenscroft (Diane); niece, Sujata Connors (Rob); nephews, A. Andrew Ray (Mira) and Joshua Ravenscroft; as well as extended family: Anita Hallyburton (Wayne) and their daughters, Sarah, Martha, and Anna (Christine); and Diana Moore (Brian Mitton). Many dear friends and neighbours also mourn her passing and carry her memory forward.
We take comfort in knowing that Sally is reunited with Richard—perhaps walking hand in hand along Brown’s Beach in West Quaco, the sea sparkling beside them and the wide mud flats unfolding at their feet.
A gathering in Sally’s honour will be held on Tuesday, June 24th, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at McAdams Funeral Home in Fredericton. Remarks will begin at 2:30 PM. All who loved her are warmly welcome. Donations may be made to the YMCA Strong Communities of Fredericton and Friends for Zambia.
