Obituary of Gertrude Lillian Ferris

Gertrude Ferris passed peacefully on July 12, 2025, at Pine Grove Nursing Home, with her beloved husband of nearly 76 years, Edward Ferris, tenderly holding her hand.

Gertrude will be lovingly remembered by her children, Elaine Hamilton (Brian), Lorraine Moxam (Gary), and Janet Hovey (Gordon); her cherished grandchildren, Michael Hamilton (Kelly Daye), Anne Hamilton, Ferris Main (Dan), Jennifer Moxam (Deon Gregoire), and Edward “E.J.” Doucet, and her great-grandchildren, Linden, Miller, Miley, and Ryan. She also leaves behind her dear friend, Donelda Kolijn (Leo), as well as many nieces, and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Laura Murray; infant son, Murray; sister and brother-in-law, Stella and Hazen Haines, as well as a brother, Donald Murray.

Gertrude was a dedicated community volunteer who gave generously of her time and talents. She was the co-founder of the Fredericton Branch of the Diabetes Canada, a proud member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, a volunteer at York Care Centre for 40 years, and a long-time instructor of the Nifty over 50 exercise group.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to all the staff of Pine Grove Nursing Home for their compassionate care and kindness to Gertrude.

A visitation will be held at All Saints Anglican Church on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, from 10 am – 11 am. A Memorial Service will follow at 11 am, with Fr. Stephen Harnish officiating.
