Obituary of Dorothy Mary (Hogan) Carruthers
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved sister and friend, Dorothy Mary Carruthers, on Monday, July 7, 2025, surrounded by family. A lifelong resident of Fredericton, Dorothy held a deep love for her city.
Dorothy was predeceased just 15 months ago by her devoted husband and best friend, John “Jack” Carruthers - the love of her life. We take comfort in knowing they are together again.
Born to Dorothy Mary (Walsh) Hogan and Michael Benedict “Ben” Hogan, Dorothy was the fourth of six children in a close-knit family. She is lovingly remembered by her sisters, Carmel Myles and Margaret Hogan (Karen Reecke); her brothers, Bernard Hogan and Michael Hogan (Gael); her sisters-in-law, Wendy Hogan and Cindy Chessie; her ex-sister-in-law, Judy Mills; along with her dear friends, Wendy Courier and Terry Kressler. She also leaves behind cherished nieces and nephews, their families, and her many Hogan and Walsh cousins and their extended families.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, her brother, William "Bill" Hogan; her brother-in-law, James “Jim” Myles, and fondly remembered aunts and uncles who brought warmth to her life.
Dorothy had a special gift for connection - making friends wherever she went. She worked for many years as Manager in our family business, Hogan’s Jewel, later transitioning into real estate, and eventually serving as Administrative Support at the Fredericton Airport Authority. She had a remarkable memory for names and faces, and truly loved meeting people.
Dorothy and Jack shared a keen interest in music. She delighted in hearing him play guitar, and she never hesitated to dance when her favorite songs came on (especially Pharrell Williams’ “Happy”).
One of Dorothy and Jack’s most treasured places was Prince Edward Island, where they created many happy memories together. Today, we take solace in imagining them back there in spirit, hand in hand.
A private Celebration of Life has taken place.
The family of the late Dorothy (Hogan) Carruthers wishes to extend their deep appreciation to friends and family for their kind thoughts and expressions of sympathy during this difficult time as well as their sincere appreciation and thanks to the caring staff at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. We are so very grateful for the love and support you have shown us. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
