Obituary of Pastor Wayne Flowers

It is with broken hearts that the family of Wayne Flowers announce his passing on Monday, July 21st, 2025, at Hospice House in Fredericton; his peaceful passing occurred surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 4, 1957, in Galt, Ontario, he was the son of Gerald Flowers and the late Carlotta (Harrietha) Flowers.

At the young age of seventeen, Wayne felt a strong and irrefutable call to the Ministry; he devoted the rest of his life to pastoring, mentoring and helping those in need. During his first twenty years as a pastor, Wayne cared for and ministered to several communities and churches in New Brunswick and Ontario. In 1999, Wayne joined the pastoral staff at Smythe Street Church in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The love and care he felt and was able to give to others would lead him to reflect on his time at Smythe Street Church as a place of personal healing and reinvigoration.

Wayne was active and loved biking, tennis, racquetball and skating; above all he loved Hockey and was avid hockey player in his youth. Wayne was musically gifted and enjoyed playing multiple instruments, singing, writing songs and listening to all genres of music; he was also an avid reader. Wayne was passionate about helping others and loved people; his heart was full when he was encouraging others, and helping them navigate challenging times in their lives. He was a passionate supporter of people in need and loved to support charitable organizations like the Multicultural Association, the Transition House, the Fredericton Food Bank, and anyone who needed to be encouraged.

Left behind to grieve are his devoted wife of forty-six years, Brenda (Jacques) Flowers, his adoring children, Rachelle Trail and son-in-law, Chris Trail, Justin Flowers and daughter-in-law, Meagan Flowers. Wayne also leaves behind four grandchildren who were the light of his life, Ava Trail, Jack Flowers, Caleb Trail, and Roslyn Flowers; they were his pride and joy and he reveled in showing them all the love in the world. In addition to his father, Gerry Flowers, Wayne will be missed by siblings, Beverley Woodward, Mike Flowers and their families, as well as many extended family members and close friends.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the amazing staff at Hospice House in Fredericton, and the Neuro team in Saint John for the amazing care they provided the entire family. Specifically, we want to acknowledge the amazing care provided by nurses, Emily, Shari, Stephanie, and Loop-D, and Dr. Kelsey Cameron. The family would also like to express our deepest thanks to the Smythe Street Church family for their unwavering support during this time.

Visitation will be held at Smythe Street Church on Friday, July 25, 2025, from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at Smythe Street Church on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 11 am with a reception to follow; a private interment will be held after the reception. The service will be live streamed for those unable to attend. You may watch at this link, http://www.ssc.church/youtube , or at the church's Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/sscchurch .
