Obituary of Ellen Bartlett (Dove) Sherren

Ellen Bartlett Sherren (Dove), born April 10, 1946, in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, passed away peacefully in Fredericton, New Brunswick, on September 1, 2025. She was 79 years old. Ellen lived a life rich with love, creativity, and generosity, and her memory will remain a cherished presence for all who knew her.

Ellen was the beloved wife of Reginald Sherren, with whom she shared a life of partnership, joy and quiet strength. Together, they built a welcoming home filled with warmth and laughter, where friends and family always felt embraced. She was a devoted mother to Robert (Maria) and Kate (Simon), and the proud grandmother of Thomas, Beatriz, Eleanor, Frederic, and George. Her nurturing spirit and playful heart made her not only a guiding presence but also a source of joy and inspiration to her family.

She is also survived by her siblings, Rod (late Rita) Dove and Jane (Jerome) Jesseau; her sisters-in-law, Barbara (late Nelson) and Mona (late Bryce), and will be deeply missed by her nieces, nephews and extended family, who shared in her kindness and humor. Ellen was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Margaret (McRae) Dove; her sister, Susan Dove; brothers-in-law, Bryce, Nelson and Keith Sherren; and sister-in-law, Rita Dove.

Ellen’s life was defined by her ability to bring beauty and care into every space she touched. Whether through her creativity, her flourishing gardens, her thoughtfully decorated homes, or at the family’s cherished cottage on Davidson Lake, she created places that lifted spirits and made others feel welcome. She had an exceptional gift for filling the hearts of those around her, often through small gestures of generosity and kindness that left a lasting impact.

Her creativity was matched by her wisdom and sense of play. She delighted in games, puzzles and crosswords, always eager to engage her sharp mind in a challenge. She was equally happy to share a laugh and a glass of stout with family and friends, knowing that joy and togetherness were among life’s greatest treasures.

Ellen valued community and faith deeply, finding friendship, meaning and purpose as a member of Wilmot United Church. She gave freely of her time and talents, always ready to pitch in and help. Her commitment to service reflected the compassion at the core of her being.

Those who knew Ellen will remember her as loving, wise, generous, caring, playful and creative. She was a woman who saw goodness and beauty in the world and in people, and who worked quietly but steadfastly to nurture both. Her presence brought comfort, laughter, and inspiration and her absence will be felt profoundly.

Ellen’s family extends heartfelt thanks to all who have offered their support and compassion during this time.
