Obituary of Nancy Angela Beltrandi

It is with great sadness that the family of Nancy Angela (Herbin) Beltrandi announces her passing unexpectedly, but peacefully, at home with her cat, Gabby by her side. She was born on March 27th, 1936, in Fredericton, to the late Robert and Gwen (Kitchen) Herbin.

Nancy will be remembered for her love of all beautiful things, windy days and her family above all else. As a young girl she lived in Toronto, and then Ottawa, where her father worked for the Ottawa war bureau. Nancy excelled at ballet. After the war, the family moved to New York City where her father worked for the United Nations. Nancy continued dancing, but also took an avid interest in art. She was accepted to the Pratt Institute of Art where she studied Commercial Art (class of 1954). Nancy then married Peter Beltrandi, started a family, and worked as a bank teller in New York City.

A few years later, Nancy left New York with her parents and two daughters for Tokyo, Japan, where she continued her interest in art as the "chic young art teacher" at Nishimachi International School. She was known for stylishly wearing beautiful scarves as hairbands on her long brown hair. Her daughters were often asked if she was their sister.

After nine years in Japan, Nancy returned to Fredericton with her girls, and took advantage of her previous banking experience to get a job with Canada Permanent Trust in downtown Fredericton, where she worked her way up to an Assistant Manager position.

But Nancy never lost touch with her artistic and creative side. She graduated from the cabinetry and woodworking program at NBCC in Saint John (class of 1985); and the photography program at the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design (Class of 1989).

Nancy was a tireless volunteer for the Fredericton Botanical Society, and the Unitarian Fellowship. This was where she developed many friendships. She also met with an art group for many years, creating many lovely oil painting which adorn her apartment.

Nancy is survived by her daughters, Lynn Beltrandi (Roque Panza-Giosa), Oakville, ON, and Jeanne Beltrandi Chown (Douglas Chown), Saint John, NB; her sisters, Diane Miller (Jim), and Michelle (Herbin) Griffith; her grandchildren, Michael Panza-Beltrandi, and Gabriela Panza-Beltrandi, as well as three nieces and two nephews, Evie, Bobby, Michelle, Kim and Ian. She is also survived by her four step-granddaughters, Lisa, Carlene, Angela, and Jillian, as well as step-great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Hadley, Adalyn, Ben, Seb, and Colton, who held a special place in her heart.

Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Robert Joseph Beltrandi, and her sister, Eva (Bob) Lozraites.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Bill Walker, and Janya Filipovic for their invaluable help to Nancy over the last year.

A visitation will take place Sunday, September 7th, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at McAdam's Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 8th, at 11:00 am at J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow the funeral at Fredericton Rural Cemetery Extension, Woodstock Rd., Fredericton. For those who were unable to attend in person, a recording is available at the following link: https://vimeo.com/event/5358346
