Obituary of Edward Allen McFadzen
The family of Edward “Ed” Allen McFadzen sadly announced that he passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at York Care Center in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Born on May 16, 1941, he was the son of the late Eldon McFadzen and Beatrice (Parker) Barton.
Ed lived in Toronto most of his adult life, moving back to Fredericton after the death of his wife, Joanne. He was a veteran and member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Fredericton Branch no. 04, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of other members who quickly became friends. He loved his card games, especially cribbage, but also 45’s and Chase the Ace. He loved family gatherings, as well as “shopping” and travelling with his wife. They were adventurous to say the least. They really did live life their way.
He is survived by his three sisters, Betty Smythe-James (Chris), Debbie Dunphy (Richard), and Ruth Bell (Neil); many nieces and nephews; friend, Kathy, and long-time friend, René (Toronto, ON).
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brothers, Gerald (Sonny), Bob and Frank McFadzen, and Phillip Barton; sisters, Doris Ward, and Helen Mae Paul; step-brother, Lewis, as well as step-sisters Ada Dyer, and Donna King.
The family is very appreciative of the care and compassion he received from Tower 1 staff of York Care Center, especially during his last week.
In keeping with Ed’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. A private family interment will take place at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
