Obituary of James William MacKenzie

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of James “Jim” MacKenzie on October 4, 2025, at Moncton City Hospital. Born in Minto, Sunbury Co., NB, on March 16, 1936, he was the son of the late Annie Pauline Bedell and George Colin MacKenzie. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

James is survived by several nieces, nephews and their children.

In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his oldest brother, George, who passed at age 16 with Polio, as well as his other brothers, John (Evelyn), Bruce (June), and David.

James had 28 years of service with the RCMP. He worked as a technician, maintaining the car radios. He was posted in various places throughout Newfoundland, and then Moncton, NB.

He enjoyed his retirement, and offered his time delivering with Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed watching the Blue Jays baseball games. James loved travelling locally, and spent a few winters residing in the warm and sunny Florida. A quiet man in nature, watching, and wise. Famous for his quiet humour when you least expected it. James was never one to ask for anything, but would always be willing to help others.

We would like to thank all of James’ caregivers at the Moncton Residence, and the doctors and nurses on floor 4600 at Moncton City Hospital. The Mackenzie family are forever grateful.

In keeping with James’ wishes, there will be no public services. A private interment will take place at the Fredericton Rural Extension Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Forever in our hearts and memories. Rest in peace dear uncle Jim
