Obituary of Gordon Edwin Hare

It is with heavy hearts, that the family of Gordon Edwin Hare announces his sudden and peaceful passing at home on October 5, 2025, at the age of 88 years old. Born in Chipman, New Brunswick, on January 11, 1937, he was the son of the late Herman and Mabel Hare.

Gord was a very personable and widely loved man by all who had the pleasure and privilege of knowing him. His radiant smile, his warm heart and caring, generous nature was some of his most admirable qualities. For these, and many other reasons, people gravitated towards him.

Born in Chipman, Gord moved to Newcastle Creek as a small boy. It is during his childhood here that he developed his love for Draglines, and the Grand Lake Generating Station that were in his backyard. This upbringing provided the backdrop for his education and in 1962, Gord graduated from University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In addition to his wife, two children and their families, there was nothing he was prouder of than his engineer’s iron ring. He wore it faithfully until the time of his passing.

Once graduated from UNB, Gord began his career with NB Power- a job he loved and took immense pride in. It was here, where he remained happily employed until his retirement, in June of 1995, after a 33-year career. It was also here that he met his wife, Lorna Butler, when a mutual friend introduced them. Since Lorna and Gord were both travelling home to Minto on weekends their carpool soon turned into something much sweeter and the rest as they say is history. They were married for 52 years until Lorna’s passing in 2016. As a couple they rarely spent a night apart, and despite both facing significant health challenges over the years, their dedication, commitment, and love to one another remained as strong as the day they were married. It gives the family a sense of peace to know that they are now together once again.

Gord was a down-to-earth man who enjoyed the simple things in life - country music, Roy Rogers, Ma and Pa Kettle reruns, watching WWE, sitting on his veranda, and the man never met a piece of pie that he didn’t like. He lived his life in simple terms, and the simplicity gave him fulfillment-devotion to his family and friends.

Gord leaves behind his devoted children; son, Michael Hare (Joanna); daughter, Debbie Hallett (Todd); granddaughters, Jiveney Trecartin (Mike), and Lauren Hare; great granddaughter, Annabelle Trecartin; sister, Mildred Gryschuk; sister-in-law, Brenda Butler; nieces, Jennifer MacFarlane (Ben); Janice Butler (Jason) and Lisa Gryschuk (Steve); nephew, Gary Gryschuk (Denise); great nephews, Declan, Camden, Lachlan MacFarlane; as well as a great niece, Evelyn Storey.

In addition to his beloved wife of 52 years, Lorna, Gord was predeceased by parents, Herman and Mabel Hare, and by his brothers-in-law, Kevin Butler and Gordon Gryschuk.

Gord had many friends and neighbours who kept a watchful eye on him in the years since Lorna passed. As a family, we collectively thank each and every one of you for looking out for our dad, who we loved so very much. You all know who you are.

A visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. A private interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery directly afterwards. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gord’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the New Brunswick SPCA or Parkinson Canada.
