Obituary of Irma Emily Trueman
Peacefully with her family by her side, Irma leaves behind her daughters, Jayne, Nancy (Steve), and Joey (Jed); son, Andrew (Wendy); granddaughters, Chelsea, and Rowan (Saleem); and her great grandchild, Noor.
Irma was predeceased by her parents, William and Helen; brother, Kenneth; and husband, Wallace Hale.
Born to William Robert “Bill” and Helen Gladys (Patterson) Trueman in the farming community of Upper Point de Bute, New Brunswick, Irma was the youngest of two children. She and her brother Ken helped out on the mixed family farm, and grew up working around purebred cattle. She participated in 4H Beef Showmanship competitions.
Irma attended Mount Allison University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She was actively involved in university sports, receiving a gold “A” for athletics. She also served as Provincial Coordinator for Girls 4H clubs in New Brunswick. After graduating from university, Irma worked as a dietitian at the former Victoria Public Hospital in Fredericton.
As a young wife and mother, Irma’s then-husband David, through his employment, took them to the North Shore of the St. Lawrence. Their family expanded and they called Forestville, Quebec home for 17 years. Eventually the family returned to New Brunswick, where Irma was employed as Manager of Human Resources at the Campbellton Hospital. When the family moved to Fredericton, Irma was first employed with the Civil Service Commission, then Tourism New Brunswick, and later with the Department of Natural Resources until her retirement.
In her spare time, Irma served as Secretary Treasurer for the Kiwanis Club for 5 years. She was also an avid curler, a member of both the Fredericton Golf and Curling Club, and Capital Winter Club. During the summer months she was a loyal lawn bowler, bowling for enjoyment and competitively representing New Brunswick at various venues across Canada.
Irma was an excellent seamstress and sewed many beautiful pieces of clothing and home decor items for her and her family’s homes. She was passionate about cooking, and was well known for her hospitality. Many special meals were prepared for her family and friends over the years. She also enjoyed gardening, Saturday morning “yard sale-ing”, and played a fair hand of Bridge until her passing.
In later years, Irma reunited with an old friend, Wallace Hale. Irma and Wally enjoyed several happy years together and were married shortly before Wally’s death in 2014.
Irma will be missed and is fondly remembered by her family, many good friends and acquaintances.
At Irma’s request there will be no services. A private interment will take place in Point de Bute Cemetery at a later date. To leave a message of condolence, please visit www.mcadamsfh.com.
