Obituary of Ray William Dixon
It is with deep sadness that the family of Ray William Dixon announces his sudden passing on October 25, 2025. He was the son of the late Raymond and Laura (Sullivan) Dixon.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Dorothy; his son, Scott (Wanda), and his daughter, Lori (Bob). Grampy will be forever loved and remembered by his grandsons, Eric and Max. Ray is also survived by a sister, Myrna, and brother, Conrad.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by siblings, Howard, Allene, Bernard, Lois, and Marie. Ray enjoyed the time he spent with his large extended family. Whether it was special occasions or everyday visits, Ray's love for family was evident in the warmth and humour he brought to these connections.
After graduating from John Caldwell High School in Grand Falls, NB, Ray attended the University of New Brunswick as a Beaverbrook Scholar, earning his BA in 1960 and BEd in 1961. He subsequently taught at the high school level in Florenceville and Whitehorse before returning to UNB to complete law school in 1965.
Ray practised law in Fredericton for 46 years, during which his professional activities included serving as Clerk of the Legislature and president of the New Brunswick branch of the Canadian Bar Association. He was honoured with the designation of Queen’s Counsel in 1986, and received a 50-year life membership from the NB Law Society in 2015. In addition to being a longtime member of Christ Church Cathedral, Ray actively participated in numerous community organizations, including the Rotary Club of Fredericton, where he received the Paul Harris Award for Service.
Ray had a strong appreciation for nature, spending many summers with his family at Grand Lake and winters at Crabbe Mountain. During his early retirement, he and Dorothy enjoyed several winter holidays in Florida. Most recently, Ray could be found walking the river trails and golfing weekly with his friends.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral on Tuesday, November 4th at 2 pm with The Very Rev. Geoffrey Hall officiating. There will be a livestream available at the time of the service on the Christ Church Cathedral YouTube Channel, https://www.youtube.com/@christchurchcathedralfton/streams.
