Obituary of Edward Allison McCashion

Edward Allison McCashion, 84, of Fredericton, NB, passed away peacefully December 1, 2025, at Pine Grove Nursing Home surrounded by his family. He was born in New Market, to Arthur and Margaret (McCaughey) McCashion on August 14, 1941.

Edward was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Margaret (McCaughey) McCashion and his brothers, Patrick, John, Tom, Bob and his sisters, Margaret-Ann, Agnes. He is survived by three sons, Edward (Michele) McCashion, David McCashion and Matthew (Angie) McCashion; six grandchildren, Melissa (Brandon) Barton, Sean (Maythanya) McCashion, Ryan (Melanie) McCashion, Evan (Yullia) McCashion, Eric McCashion and Katelyn McCashion; two great- grandchildren, Luke and Natalie Barton. One sister, Mary Sveinson (Ronald) of Surrey, BC; and several nieces and nephews.

Edward grew up working hard on the family farm, a work ethic he carried into his career at the Agricultural Experimental Farm along with his brother Bob. Edward’s genuine and happy energy radiated through the workplace, impacting his colleagues and their family alike. Edward was often on call when it was a classic east coast storm, ready to spring into action to do whatever needed to be done. Edward had a deep passion for taking care of everyone and everything at the Agricultural Farm. This helpful nature wasn’t only reserved for his coworkers but his neighbours and community. Edward was always there to lend a hand; snow blow a driveway with his tractor or fix a little boy’s bicycle. A batting cage was named in his honour due to his heavy involvement in minor league baseball.

Edward loved to hunt and fish and would jump at any chance to be out in the woods. He had an adventurous spirit and liked to share this with his friends, sons and grandchildren. Edward was especially devoted to his family, never missing his son’s various sports games, driving his grandsons to hockey (with a special stop at Wendy’s) and cheering on his granddaughter at her swim meets.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the honour of knowing him.

Special thanks to the staff at Pine Grove for all their wonderful care.

A Memorial Service will be held in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. with Father Peter Osbourne as celebrant.  A private inurnment will take place in Smithfield Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
