Obituary of Carley Edna (McKay) Colwell
“Some glad morning, when this life is o’er, I’ll fly away.
To a home on God’s celestial shore, I’ll fly away."
As the very heart of her family, Carley’s passing leaves a huge void in their lives. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Carley is survived by her husband of 73 years, Laurin; children, Dwight (Mary), Cynthia (Garth), Karen (Bill), Steve (Lise) and Mark; grandchildren, Michael, Melody, Jessica, Jordan and Erin; great-grandchildren, McKenna, Lydia and Adelyn; brother, Harland McKay; sisters-in-law, Margaret, June, Rae, Isobel Spicer, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Carley was predeceased by her infant daughter, Carlene; parents, Lawrence “Larn” and Margaret “Maggie” McKay; brothers, Ellery, Everett and Arnold; sisters-in-law, “Peggy” McKay, Charline Smith, Helen Colwell and Mary Colwell; brothers-in-law, Rupert Colwell, George Spicer, Walter Smith and Doug Rouse and grandson, Christopher Colwell.
An active member of the community, particularly with the Capital Y’s Menettes, Carley was always quick to lend a hand and her caring nature left an impression on many hearts and ensured lifelong friendships. She enjoyed several years with her Aquacise group and looked forward to their coffee times together. Her humble, modest personality, combined with a quick wit, endeared her to everyone she met and she will be deeply missed by all who had the joy of knowing her. “704” was always a warm, welcoming place for all who came through the doors.
There will be no visitation, however a private, family-only service celebrating Carley’s life will be held, with interment at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brunswick Street Baptist Church or Hospice House Fredericton.
