Obituary of Kathryn Blauveldt

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kathryn Blauveldt (née Kerr) in her hundredth year. Wife of the late Kenneth Blauveldt, mother of Anna (John Brooks), Hugh (Lorie) and Robert. Grandmother of Stephenie, Peter, Laura, Thomas and Katya. She also leaves behind many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and their families.

Mom was the last of her generation and youngest of eight Kerr siblings, who were the first to give her the lifelong nickname of “Dolly”. To her family, she was our ‘anchor’, a supporting partner to dad, a constant warm and loving presence to us all, not to mention the best pie maker ever.

In the community, she was dedicated to serving others over many decades. A past provincial president and life member of the I.O.D.E., past president of Cathedral Aid of Christ Church Cathedral, past president of the Ladies’ Section of the Capital Winter Club, a past director of the N.B. Safety Council, and past committee chair for the Christmas Toy Distribution Centre. All this was on top of an office manager career. To quote her Sir Howard Douglas Chapter I.O.D.E. life membership citation, it was her “fine qualities of mind and heart” that enabled her to achieve, and especially to give, so much.

So many people deserve our thanks for the care and friendship they extended to mom, especially in recent years. Our heartfelt appreciation goes to Linda and Alastair Lamont for the countless errands run, the nightly check-in calls, the Sunday brunches, and so much more. To her Parkland and Shannex family, Carol, Bertha, Wanda, Tina, Shawn, Susan, the nursing staff, and all the rest, please accept our gratitude for your unfailing respect and that ‘extra mile’ you went to make sure mom always felt at home.

At mom’s request, a family graveside service will be held. Donations in her memory to your favourite charity are appreciated.
