Obituary of Marianne Skarborn

Marianne passed away in her home on December 20th after living for 5 years with an incurable lung disease. Marianne was born October 9th, 1943, in Undersåker, Sweden, then moved to Stockholm with her parents, John and Margit Schäff, where she met her husband to be, Stig, in high school.

After marrying in 1965 they immediately moved to Canada where they lived in Vancouver, Toronto, and Sudbury before settling in Fredericton in 1980. In addition to raising a daughter and working as an office manager, Marianne was diligent and graduated as a mature student from St. Thomas University with a B.A. and a certificate in gerontology, followed by a master’s degree in psychology from the University of New Brunswick.

Marianne kept in regular contact with good friends from the various places she lived. Her passions were the Newfoundland dogs she always had (8) since she came to Fredericton, travel, and when she was young, downhill skiing.

Marianne is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her husband, her cherished daughter Karin (Shawn), and her grandsons Markus, Peter, and Alex. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering friendship will also be dearly missed by her lifelong close friends.

The family extends their sincere thank you to the exceptional doctors and Extramural personnel who helped her cope with her disease.

In keeping with Marianne's wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. Donations in her memory may be made to the Chalmers Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
