Obituary of Russell Frank Sweezey
The Russell and Sweezey families were saddened to learn of the recent death of their nephew and cousin, Russell Sweezey (1973-2025) in Fort McMurray, AB, where he had been living for many years. Russell was the only child of Evelyn (Russell) Sweezey (1950-2004) and Frank C. Sweezey (1948-2011). Born in Fredericton, he graduated from Fredericton High School and then attended St. Thomas University for a year before pursuing other interests, including working with York Sunbury Search and Rescue.
In addition to his parents, Russell was pre-deceased by his grandparents, Bervel and Marjorie Russell and Frank and Evelyn Sweezey; his aunt, Marion (Sweezey) Gillis; and his uncles, Jack (Faye) Sweezey and Kenneth Sweezey.
He is survived and fondly remembered by his uncle, Harold (Patricia) Russell, as well as his aunts, Thelma Innes (David), Paula King (Henry), Dawn Russell (Bill), Clara Grey (Billy) and Faye Sweezey. Russell will also be warmly remembered by his 19 cousins and many family friends.
A visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Friday, January 30th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, with a Funeral Mass at Holy Family Catholic Church, in Fredericton, scheduled for Saturday, January 31st at noon. An inurnment will take place in Oromocto, NB in the Spring, with Russell being laid to rest by his parents.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of his mother’s many years of dedicated service at St. Thomas University as the Director of Admissions and Director of Alumni Affairs, for those who wish, a donation can be made to the Evelyn Sweezey Scholarship Fund at St. Thomas University, which was established on her retirement.
