Obituary of Sharon Lynn Fillmore
It is with profound sadness that the family of Sharon Lynn Fillmore announces her passing on Monday, January 12th, 2026 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, in Fredericton, N.B. after a brief illness.
Sharon was born on February 20, 1952 during a blizzard in Saint John, N.B. to George B. (Mutt) Teed and Dorothy (Rae) A. Teed (nee Linton). From the beginning, her fiery red hair and fearless demeanor marked her as one to watch.
Growing up on the Golden Grove Rd. during the “Baby Boom” years meant that she was surrounded by neighbourhood children of all ages. She loved and excelled at school and enjoyed hanging around with friends at the local “place to see and be seen”, the swings and small dock on Dolan’s Lake across from Daley’s store.
It was at these very swings that, at 14, Sharon met a dashing future Air Force member, J. Bruce Fillmore. They were practically inseparable from that day forward. Sharon graduated from Simonds High School in 1970 and worked at NB Tel on Chipman Hill until September 1971, when she and Bruce married and moved to Chatham N.B. where Bruce was posted.
They happily welcomed their only child, daughter Amber, in 1974 and when she was about to begin grade 1, Bruce was posted to Gagetown. They bought a home in Skyline Acres where they would live for over 40 years. She and Bruce loved to sit on the front deck and watch the world go by and chatting with many neighbours who became friends. Recently they moved to an apartment where they made sure, they had a balcony so they could continue that wonderful tradition.
After holding a number of retail positions when she was first married, Sharon found her calling combining her love of reading with retail when she joined the U.N.B. Bookstore, eventually moving to the position of manager. Despite the hectic rushes throughout the year, Sharon loved the job and thrived on the activity, making more lifelong friends in the process.
After retirement, Sharon and Bruce enjoyed wintering in Myrtle Beach N.C., later in Nice, France and added more wonderful friends along the way. They loved to travel, whether to a cabin on P.E.I., road trips to Newfoundland or far-flung countries, they were enriched by every adventure.
Sharon’s most exciting and rewarding role in the last 15 years has been being “Nan” to her grandson, Alex. He has been the light of her later life and what absolute joy she has taken in being a doting grandmother.
Besides her love of reading, Sharon enjoyed being active, walking daily. Like her mother, she was a spotless homemaker and strived to make her home attractive and welcoming. She was intelligent, fiercely loyal and loving. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, J. Bruce Fillmore; her daughter, Amber L. Gilliss (Jason); her grandson, Alex L. Gilliss; sisters, Tanya L. MacKenzie (Neil) and Abby Teed-Walton (Dave); brother, Charles (Chuck) Teed (Sarah); stepsisters, Krista Bietz-Bielecki (Adam) & April Bietz; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her mother and father-in-law, Mary and Ellis Fillmore; sister-in-law, Gertrude Fulton; brother-in-law, Raymond Fillmore; step mother, Gail Teed; and step-brother, Joe Beitz.
The family would like to thank the ER and Palliative care unit for the excellent and compassionate care given to Sharon at the Chalmers hospital.
A visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Friday, January 16th, 2026 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Following the visitation, there will be a funeral service with Rev. Greg Geldart officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the SPCA or a charity of your choosing.
