Obituary of James Nicholson Horncastle

It is with great sadness that the family of James Nicholson Horncastle of New Maryland, NB, announce his passing on Sunday, February 1st, 2026. Born in Fredericton, NB in 1938, he was the only son of the late Percy LeBaron Horncastle and Irene Mildred (Fife) Horncastle. Jim was pre-deceased by his wife of 53 years, Joan Marie (Dunbar) Horncastle and is survived and mourned by his daughter, Michelle Marie (Kent Ross) Horncastle. 

Jim worked for the Province of New Brunswick and in concert with his wife Joan, was involved in land development. Throughout his life, Jim had a great love for his family and a great fondness for animals, especially the family dogs and horses. Jim was always ready for any adventure and enjoyed many years riding his motorcycle until he was well into his 80’s. He also loved taking drives in his convertible and spending time with family in Blacks Harbour, NB. Jim enjoyed each and every day to the fullest and will be sadly missed.

The family would like to acknowledge Dr Daigle and Dr McGinn for their expertise and exceptional kindness while caring for Dad and the paramedics and nurses at the Emergency Department of the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital who provided such compassion and excellent care. Also, special thanks to Nancy, Lorna, and Ester who provided such amazing help and support and always brightened Dad’s day with their visits. 

A service and celebration will be held at Christ Church (Parish) Church in the early Spring followed by interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Fredericton SPCA. Any condolences in Jim’s memory may be made on-line at www.mcadamfh.com
