Obituary of Susan Jean Loxston Knight
Susan “Sue” Jean Loxston Knight, born in London, England 12th March 1945, sadly passed away 6th February 2026 at the Fredericton Hospice House in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
Sue left school at 18 and joined the Women’s Royal Naval Service (The Wrens) as a Radar Plotter. After postings to Yeovil, Liverpool and Northern Ireland, Sue was promoted to Petty Officer and joined the Royal Naval College in Greenwich where she received further promotion to Second Officer. After four further postings, and having met so many great Canadians in England from the military navy, Sue left the Wrens in 1975 for the wonders of Canada where she settled in Saint John, New Brunswick. Here she worked on the TV station, followed by other numerous jobs across the province before finally joining the Canadian Forces in 1979, where she remained until 2005.
She loved travel and travelled the word with her dearly beloved partner of over 40 years, Mavis Hurley. Sue is additionally survived by her sister, Lesley (Peter) and their two sons, Chris and Jamie, as well as her brother-in-law, Duncan, who was married to her late sister, Jane (d. 2019).
Mavis and all the family would like to thank Dr. Amy Russel, Dr. Samantha Dube, and all the medical practitioners and support teams who assisted Sue during her battle with cancer over the past 4 years. Particular thanks to all the staff and volunteers at Hospice House for their care and support during Sue’s last few weeks.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, 12th February 2026 at 2:00 pm in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel in Fredericton, NB, with Rev. Wandlyn Snelgrove officiating. Sue will be interred at the Kilburn Kingsclear Cemetery at a later date.
