Obituary of Earl S. Smith

The family is sad to announce the passing of Earl Simpson “Buddy” Smith at Hospice House Fredericton on February 23, 2026. Born on November 13, 1945 in Haverhill Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Earl and Emily (Haskell) Smith.

Earl was born and raised in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He had an early love of horses that would be with him his whole life. He met and married Sharon Chlow in the 1960’s and they welcomed their only daughter, Lisa, in 1970. By 1974, they had relocated to the Fredericton area. Earl worked as a correctional office with the province of New Brunswick for 30 years before retiring. Prior to that, he worked at the Fredericton racetrack, where he trained and raced Standardbred horses. 

Earl will be missed by his wife of 57 years, Sharon and daughter, Lisa Miller (James), as well as extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at Hospice House Fredericton for their amazing care and kindness to both Earl and the family during this difficult time.

McAdam’s Funeral Home has been entrusted with Earl’s final arrangements. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at the J.A.McAdam Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to the MS Society or Hospice House Fredericton in Earl’s name would be appreciated by the family.
