Obituary of Janice Leigh McLaughlin
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janice Leigh McLaughlin on March 1st, 2026. Born on December 13th, 1960 to the late Donna Moore McLaughlin and Robert McLaughlin.
She is survived by her sister, Cheryl and her husband Tim; brother, Peter and his partner Stacey; sister-in-law, Caroline, cousin, Rick Williams and their families; nieces, Jennifer Noble, Ashley and Abby McLaughlin; nephews, Adam Noble, Nicholas and Samuel McLaughlin; as well as great nieces and nephew, Madelaine Sawyer, James and Blake McGivney.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved aunt, Janet; brothers, Brian, and Michael, and dear friend, Catherine Giles.
Janice loved nature: birds, cats, dogs and the ocean. She spent many of her days on the beach, collecting sea glass and driftwood so that she could bring the ocean back home with her. Janice also had a great passion for reading and music. She loved to spend her time with family, both immediate and extended, as well as her friends. Playing games such as dominoes and Boggle, singing, and making long trips across Canada to visit family in Ontario.
Along her life, Janice made a great deal of dear friends. From her childhood in the small community of Rusagonis to her adult life in Fredericton. These friends, both old and new, filled Janice’s life with immense love and joy.
She spent her life dedicating herself to others as a great caregiver. Volunteering to help seniors, taking care of the children of her friends and family, as well as looking after animals. These actions stood as a testament to her kindness and compassion. Janice always did her best to encourage the passions and interests of her loved ones.
After her diagnosis, Janice developed an even stronger faith in Jesus, and held onto that faith and shared it as much as she could. This faith was bolstered by her strong relationship with her minister Rev. Larry Matthews. As Psalms 37:13-14 reads:
“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. / Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.”
Janice and her family would like to extend an immense gratitude to all of the friends and family who were there in her life’s journey. As well as all of the healthcare professionals and the dedicated staff of the Fredericton Hospice House, such as Dr. Paulin and Janice’s lifelong friends Shawn and Carol Coffey, who took exceptional care of - and showed such kindness towards - Janice. You are a tribute to your profession and we wish you continued success in healthcare.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, she will be laid to rest next to her mother in the Rusagonis Cemetery at a later date.
In her memory, Janice wished to encourage those who carry on to be compassionate. To spend time with loved ones, volunteer in the community, and always be kind.
