Obituary of Janice Patricia Roy
The family of Janice (Lane) Roy sadly announces she passed away on March 6, 2026, at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, New Brunswick at the age of 79. She was born on August 20, 1946, in Deloraine, Manitoba to the late George Bruce Harvey Lane and the late Mabel Annie Day.
Janice was raised in southern Manitoba and trained as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Winnipeg, where she nursed until she met Jean Claude Roy, an army corporal from Dalhousie, New Brunswick. They married in Deloraine, Manitoba on October 19, 1968. From Quebec to Germany back to Manitoba and finally in New Brunswick, Janice dedicated over 30 years of caring to patients in five different hospitals in maternity & delivery, surgical, palliative care and in the ER. After retiring from nursing, Janice was active in the community in Dalhousie, volunteering at the SPCA bookstore, the Branch 17 Legion, and as a co-leader for the Miss Bon Ami Pageant. She enjoyed her winters in Florida with her fellow snowbirds, and especially cherished her time with her granddaughters.
Janice will be sadly missed by her children, Patrick Roy and Monique Penney (Jonathan); her beloved granddaughters, Sarah and Katelyn Penney; brothers, Bruce Lane (Liz), Malcolm “Mike Lane (Susan), Donald Lane (Debra); her nieces and nephews, and her extended family. In addition to her husband and parents, Janice was predeceased by her half-brother, Ross Slarks.
Thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital for their dignified care during Janice’s final days and to the staff and residents at Ste. Anne’s Court for creating such a friendly and enjoyable environment over the last 7 months.
In keeping with Janice’s wishes, there will be a private interment ceremony later in the summer where we will lay her to rest next to her husband Claude in Dalhousie, New Brunswick. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Heart & Stroke NB, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
