Obituary of Anne Nellie Lavoie

It is with deep sadness that Anne’s daughters, Giselle and Patricia announce the passing of their mother on March 22, 2026, at Maple Ridge Enhanced Living in Oromocto, NB.

Anne Nellie Lavoie (née Kieley) was born in Kingsclear, NB on December 18, 1936, to parents William and Nellie (née Burgoyne). She is survived by daughters, Giselle MacPherson (Bob MacPherson) of Dorn Ridge, NB and Patricia Lavoie (Cleve O’Donnell) of Lincoln, NB; grandson, Nicholas Léger (Tiffany Anderson) of Lincoln, NB; great-grandchildren, Wil, Eris and Max; as well as extended family across Canada and the US, including sisters-in-law, Georgette, Martha, and Rachel.

Anne was predeceased by her husband, Gerry in 2020; an infant daughter Marie in 1961; her parents, William and Nellie; and older siblings and their spouses Charlotte (Roy), Jean (Leo), Florence (Joe), Berniece (Ron), Fredericka (Phil), Dorothy, Georgina (Cliff), and Bill (Christina).

As a child, Anne attended a one-room schoolhouse in Kingsclear, and later travelled to Fredericton to attend St. Dunstan’s School, the former Fredericton High School. Upon graduation from the Fredericton Business College, Anne worked as a secretary for the Government of New Brunswick and UNB’s Law School (then located in Somerville House), Fredericton, and as a teller with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Montréal.

Along with her husband, Anne believed in giving back to her community and was involved in a number of organizations over the years, these included the Junior Chamber of Commerce; Toastmasters International; the Engineers’ Wives Association, affiliated with the Association of Professional Engineers of New Brunswick; the Pte-Claire Horticultural Society; the Kirkland Women’s Group; and the Pte-Claire Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary.

With a thirst for knowledge and a zest for life, Anne could often be found taking refuge in a good book (along with a good "cuppa tea").  Her personal library is an attestation of the things that piqued her interest, with some having become lifelong pursuits and passions like: gardening, antiques, cooking, arts and crafts, politics, history, biographies and nature. She and Gerry enjoyed travel and had the opportunity to visit such places as England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, Barbados, Venezuela and various parts of Canada and the USA.

Anne devoted herself to her family and was known for her kindness and compassion towards others - and she always had a warm smile to go along with it. Both she and Gerry enjoyed the company of a wide circle of friends while living in Moncton, Montréal and Fredericton.

Our family would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge Mary Stairs, a constant support to our parents while living in their home in Upper Kingsclear. We also acknowledge the many dedicated, hard-working health care professionals at Paradise Villa, the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, the Oromocto Public Hospital and Maple Ridge Enhanced Living.

Please join us in a Celebration of Life for our parents in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 11 a.m., with Fr. Bill Brennan of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish officiating. A reception to follow on site. Internment will take place at St. Anne's Church Cemetery in French Village, Kingsclear, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be considered to a charity of your choice.
