Obituary of Hubert Acbar Hartley
Hubert “Bud” Acbar Hartley, 83, passed away on March 23, 2026, in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Born on March 25, 1942, in Bath, New Brunswick, Bud was the son of the late Hubert Hartley and Madelaine Brown. He was lovingly raised by Ed and Louise Estabrooks, who also predeceased him.
Bud was a hardworking and entrepreneurial man who owned and operated a landscaping company and pursued several business ventures throughout his life. He took great pride in his work and in the relationships he built along the way.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Bud spent many years playing basketball with the “Hermits,” forming friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed a wide range of sports. Whether on the court, the course, or around a table, Bud was known for his competitive spirit—especially when it came to pool, darts, cards, dominoes, and friendly games of any kind.
Bud had a natural gift for connecting with people. He could walk into a room full of strangers, strike up a conversation, and leave with new friends. His outgoing nature and love of socializing gave him a wide circle of friends, and he truly valued time spent with family and others. In later years, he especially enjoyed his winters in Florida.
He shared a loving marriage of over 60 years with his wife, Linda Hartley, whom he married in 1964.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his siblings, Harvey, Carolyn, Sybil, Shona, and Sheila; and his children, Joanna (Lawrence), Joel (Denise), and Kyle (Tara and her childeren Ryan and Kristine). He was a proud grandfather to Samantha, Maddie (Tanner), Hannah (Brady), K. Leigh, Mason, Michael, Alexandra, Rachel, and Dominic, and a great-grandfather to Cory, Oakley, Sophia, and Griffin.
McAdam's Funeral Home has been entrusted with his final arrangements. There will be a memorial service to celebrate Bud's life at the Hanwell Community Church, 3 Deerwood Dr, Hanwell, NB, on Friday, March 27th, 2026 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
Bud will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
