Obituary of Helen Dunnett

The family of L. Helen (Ullock) Dunnett announces her peaceful death on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Hospice House Fredericton. Helen was born on September 12, 1935, the fifth of six children, to Gordon and Gertrude (Devereau) Ullock, in Miramichi (Newcastle, NB). She was the loving wife of 60 years to the late Murray H. Dunnett (formerly of Whitney NB) of Fredericton, NB.

Helen was a Charter Member of Eastern Star Chapter 42 (Newcastle), and was the first Sister to join the Brotherhood of United Commercial Travelers (UCT 746, Fredericton), where she served loyally for 47 years. In addition to these charitable works, she was a devout member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church.

An avid fan of sports, Helen played high school basketball and curling. One of unshakable resolve, she cheered for both the Toronto Maple Leafs & Blue Jays. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. Helen and Murray were constantly on the road supporting their children and grandchildren in various sports, and spent each summer travelling the country with trailer-in-tow, attending family reunions, visiting friends or camping wherever Dad was working that week.

Mondays were reserved for 45’s with her tablemates at Victoria Hall in New Maryland. Mom’s cooking and baking were shared regularly with family, friends and neighbours who all coveted her cookies – everyone knew Tuesday was baking day.

Helen is survived and will be deeply missed by her three daughters, Pamela Hamilton of Vancouver BC, Paula Dunnett of Fredericton NB, and Penny Granter (Tim) of Hanwell NB; five grandchildren, Jennifer Hamilton of ON, Kyle Hamilton of ON, Danica Hamilton of BC, Tyler Granter of NB, and Courtney Donohue (Mitchell) of NS; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Granter, Adelyn and Eli Donohue; several nieces and nephews across Canada, and her goddaughter, Lori Gohill (Dixon) of AB.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her siblings, Jackie Ullock (Jean), Betty Hubbard (Melvin), Dodie MacDonald (Scottie), Don Ullock (Dora Mae), and Gerald Ullock; son, Wayne M. Dunnett; son-in-law, Carman Hamilton; grandson, Derek Hamilton; great-grandson, Ryan Hamilton, as well as two nephews and one niece.

Helen’s family gratefully acknowledges her entire team of medical professionals for the great care they provided and in particular, staff at the Dr. Everett Chalmers, Saint John Regional, Victoria General (Halifax) hospitals and Hospice House Fredericton.

We will gather to celebrate Helen’s life with a memorial service in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel at McAdam’s Funeral Home in Fredericton on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, beginning at 2:00 pm AT, officiated by Reverend Drs. Peter Lohnes and Bradley Little. For those unable to attend in person, this even will be livestreamed at https://vimeo.com/event/5880875.

Due to allergies, the family requests a scent-free environment with no cologne, perfume, or scented products worn at the service, and that guests refrain from sending flowers. Instead, for those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, NB Lung Association, Hospice House Fredericton or a charity of the donor’s choice.
