Obituary of Evelyn H. McCracken

Evelyn McCracken, the sweetest and most kind-hearted person to everyone she knew and loved, passed away on April 29, 2026 at Wauklehegan Manor, in McAdam, N.B. with her husband and children by her side.

Evelyn was born in Tracy, N.B. on September 7, 1942 to Ruth (Elder) and Charles Burtt.  She grew up in Central Blissville, graduating from Sunbury West High School in 1960, followed by Teacher’s College in Fredericton in 1961.

While teaching in Ketepec (Saint John), Evelyn met Danny, her true love, at a Halloween dance in 1961.  Evelyn and Danny were married in December 1963, and spent a year and half in Truro, N.S. before moving to Fredericton, where Evelyn lived until becoming a resident at the Wauklehegan Manor in McAdam in 2025.

Evelyn is survived by her husband Danny; her children, Kirby (Sharon), Lori Anne (Marc), Kevin (Cheri), and Carla (Robin); her grandchildren, Meghan and Michael McCracken, Kendra Belliveau, Shannon, Erica, Olivia and Katie McCracken, Emily (Ian) Hebert-Kennedy, Sean and Ryan Hebert.

Evelyn is also survived by her sisters, Margaret Golding and Mildred Munn (Art); her brother, Bobby Burtt (Debbie); brothers-in-law, Paul McCracken (Verna), and Cam Dawson; sisters-in-law, Rose McCracken, Jane McCracken and Ruth Burtt, as well as her cousins and many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Ruth; her stepfather, Frank Alexander; her mother and father-in-law, Sadie and Jim McCracken; her siblings, Annie Carr and George Burtt; her brothers-in-law, Garfield Vail, Puzz Golding, Byron Carr, Tony McCracken and David McCracken, as well as her sister-in-law, Karen Dawson.

As per Evelyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  There will be a visitation at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Sunday May 3, 2026. The funeral service will be held on Monday May 4, 2026 at the Skyline Acres Baptist Church, 135 Canterbury Drive, Fredericton at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at the Rockland Cemetery in McAdam, N.B. at 3:30 p.m.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Wauklehegan Manor for making sure Evelyn was well cared for and felt ‘loved like family’ over the last year, and McAdam’s Funeral Home for their support after her passing.
