Dear Nancy and Family,
The sorrow and empathy I feel for you and yours' loss are only matched by my inability to express it through words properly, but I will try all the same.
I didn't have the privilege to meet Carter myself; speaking to others who did, it was clear he was well loved by everyone who did get to meet him, speaking to what a warm hearted, compassionate young man he was. I am so sorry for your loss.
Grief is Love with nowhere to go, and so it may feel like a wellspring that does not end. Let yourselves grieve as you need on your own timeline, however it comes. I am here for you if you ever need someone to talk to.

Nancy and Family...So shocked and saddened to learn of the death of your precious son/ brother/nephew/grandson. I remember the twins from the "Kidz Catholic Camp" in 2013. That was when you , Nancy, provided the Mexican pieta's for a fun activity. It is difficult to lose a dear one. Just know that given time, memories will survive to comfort you. Carter is where his goodness has taken him, which is into the Lord's house. Praying for God's comfort for you and all the family as you journey together through these sad days.

Carter was a special person. I got to know Carter a little while refereeing basketball with him. His positive and upbeat personality on and off the court made him one of the most popular referees with the parents and players. Although Carter was very young, his calm, positive demeanor and approach to refereeing was a constant reminder it was about the kids and the love of the sport. Nothing said or done at this point will relieve the pain of suddenly losing Carter but I thought I would share how Carter in his way made a difference. I will miss our "talks" travelling to and from games.

I first met Carter while playing Magic the Gathering - a silly little card game that many people take far too seriously. I learned very quickly that Carter - not so much. And I mean that in the best way. Win or lose, he was never not smiling, laughing, or joking around - even if it was occasionally at a particularly elevated volume. That was just Carter, after all. In a room full of people who often (lovingly) thought of Carter like a goofy kid brother, he was certainly more of an adult than the rest of us at times.
My time getting to know Carter was tragically brief. I genuinely enjoyed the asides that we would have about the Raptors and Blue Jays - it was great to be able to talk about something we were both so passionate about.
Last year, my wife gave birth to a blonde-haired, goofy little guy that we named Carter. For quite some time it’s been the source of many inside jokes amongst our group of friends - but the truth is: I can only hope that my Carter grows up to be as kind, gentle, and bright of a soul as Carter was.
In one of the final conversations that I had with Carter, he was telling me all about his family - including his brother and his twin sister, who he noticeably lit up while talking about. So to Rachel, Alex, Mom, and the rest of the family: just know that our family is thinking very deeply about your family during this time. And I can only hope that these words bring even a glimmer of warmth to you all.

Dear Nancy, Rachel and AJ,
I am so very sorry to hear about Carter's passing. I have a hard time understanding why these things happen, but must believe that God needed another angel to help do His work. It is not ours to question, but sometimes it is hard. This question may be answered in time.
I know how much Carter was loved. I heard stories and saw many pictures, and received annual Christmas photos. I was able to basically watch the kids all grow.
My deepest sympathies to you all. Hold tight to those beautiful memories of Carter. Talk about him often, and talk to him as well. I believe his spirit will be close by in the wind, in a bird's song, and always in your heart. Big hugs as you walk through this difficult time.

I am so very saddened for your loss. Although I did not know Carter well, all of my interactions with him were so positive. He did truly care about people. I watched as he assisted coaching badminton at Bliss Carmen Middle school .My Grandson was one who benefited greatly from his teaching . A few times Carter would tell the kids to try out his racquet if they felt that their own racquets were not “ working properly “ and the boys were so proud to be entrusted to do this .
I cannot imagine the sense of loss that you feel . The many wonderful memories you all have of him will help to light the path .

I remember when Carter started at the hospital, his sense of humour, kind heart and generosity presented itself right away. We talked right away and I felt like I knew him for years. He honestly felt like a brother I never had. I use to joke with him and say “what did your mother feed you?” He would grin and smile, such a tall gentle soul who didn’t only have a huge impact on my life but everyone who knew him. Every time I worked on the floor and needed curtains down, who needs a ladder when Carter was around, he would just reach up and take them down. Us short people didn’t only love his height but loved him as a person and coworker, he was part of our work family, and having him not present lately has taken a huge toll on all of us and he will always be remembered and never forgotten. I will always treasure the times we worked together, talked, and laughed together. My thoughts are prayers are for you all during this difficult time. Sending love and comfort your way.
