Obituary of A. Edward Smith
The family of A. Edward Smith is sad to report that Ed passed away on May 10, 2026.
Ed was born in Montreal, Quebec, on November 29, 1941. The only son of the late Amos and Connie (Storr) Smith.
Ed spent virtually his entire life in Atlantic Canada. He worked in Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador as a labourer then as a banker with the Royal Bank of Canada. In 1961 Ed joined the CBC Radio Station and worked for 16 years as an announcer/producer in Radio and some TV in Goose Bay, Gander, Halifax and Fredericton. In 1977 he opened Beegie's Bookstore in the Fredericton Mall. He grew the business into a total of 3 stores. The new stores were located in Brookside Mall and Oromocto Mall. Ed retired from the bookstore business after 18 successful years.
Post retirement Ed volunteered for 26 years with Meals on Wheels then in 2017 he volunteered at Pine Grove Nursing Home, for 3 years.
Ed was predeceased by his wife Joyce (Chapman) Smith of Richmond, Quebec in 1980. He is survived by two sons, Michael Edward (Coreen), of Keswick Ridge, NB and Gregory Mark (Kim) of Kingston, Ontario. Grandchildren, Corey of Keswick Ridge and Kennedy and Anderson of Kingston, Ontario. His sister, Heather Scott (Dave Sinstadt), niece Morgan and nephew Taylor. Long time friend, Margo Biggs of Lincoln, NB.
A visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton, on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm followed by a funeral service in J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Tuesday at 2:00 pm with Rev. Janice Queale officiating. Interment will take place at Sunny Bank Cemetery.
