Obituary of Dale Francis Beresford

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dale Francis Beresford.  Dale passed away peacefully at home on May 21, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, and raised in the close-knit community of Pasadena, Dale carried the values his parents instilled in him throughout his life - work hard, value your family and give back to your community.  From a young age, Dale showed a natural talent for problem-solving, demonstrated when he escaped his crib before age 18 months and a few years later embarked on a rescue mission to “save” his baby brother from the horrors of being in a playpen by cutting out the side, to name a few. He also had a love for figuring out how things work-many radios, telephones and boomboxes were sacrificed during these early endeavors in learning.  These interests led him to Lakehead University, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Dale built a career in the technology sector, taking on a variety of roles including Standards, Quality Control and Customer Support. He approached his work with dedication and integrity, always striving to do his best and support those around him. But beyond his professional accomplishments, Dale will be remembered for the warmth, humor, and quiet strength he brought to every relationship in his life.

A loving husband and devoted father, Dale met his wife, Jody, in high school. They were married in 2000 and built a life together centered on love and family.  Together, they raised their son, Ryan, who was the pride and joy of Dale’s life.

Dale had a zest for life that extended far beyond work. Outgoing and always ready to lend a helping hand, he made friends wherever he went.  He loved the outdoors, whether downhill skiing, playing ultimate frisbee, flag football, fishing or enjoying a round of golf. Dale was also deeply involved in the Scouting movement from his youth, and when Ryan showed interest in joining Beavers, Dale eagerly became a leader.  Dale also enjoyed his weekly card night which always involved laughter, friendly competition and lighthearted ribbing.

He is survived by his wife, Jody; his son, Ryan; his parents, Frank and Gladys Beresford; his brother, James; Father-in-law and Mother-in-law Barry and Joy Bennett; Sister-in-law Chantal (Tony); nephew Matias, nieces Miina, Aleah and Anna and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.  Dale’s life was a testament to kindness, curiosity, and the simple joys experienced with friends and family. He will be deeply missed and he will live forever in the memories, stories and hearts of all who knew him.

The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation and thanks to Dr. Frank, Dr. Cameron, Dr. Shafiq, to extramural services, to practitioners at the Stan Cassidy Center for Rehabilitation and his wonderful home care workers Jennifer O’Rourke and Keetje Eichhorn, all of whom have supported Dale throughout his journey with MS.

Dale requested that there be no visitation and cremation has already taken place.  A Funeral Mass will be held on June 16, 2026, at Divine Mercy Parish in St. John’s, NL beginning at 11:00AM.  For those unable to attend in person, this service will be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/live/A0HFwU4qcDI?si=udP2Bc3cd-gHVH6d .  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Dale’s name to the MS Society of Canada or a charity of the donor’s choice.

A beloved son, brother, husband and father, Dale’s laughter, warmth, and love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
