Obituary of Alma McDade

It is with sadness that the family of Alma Elizabeth (Crowley) McDade announces her passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the age of 98. Born in Cork, NB, on November 26, 1927, the daughter of Edward Crowley and Catherine (Donovan) Crowley.

Alma leaves behind her children, Jim McDade (Gerrie Weldon) of Canmore, AB, Mary MacLeod of McAdam, NB, Frank McDade (Lori Ann Gilchrist) of Rothesay, NB, and Terry McDade of Fort McMurray, AB; grandchildren, Tracey Messer (Aaron), Tammy DeMerchant (Tony Christie), Michelle Breede (Christian), Colleen Flower (Ian), Jeremy MacLeod (Chantel), Andrew McDade, Jen McDade (Matt Saulnier); great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Gabriel, Haley, Casey, Riley, Michael, Anna, Jack, Blair, Charlie, Clara and Bodhi; great-great grandchildren Landon and Lena; daughters-in-law, Lori Brewer (Larry) of York Mills, NB, and Helen McDade of Fredericton, NB; and several nieces and nephews. Alma was predeceased by her husband of 75 years, Harold “Bud” McDade; sons, Gary, Ronald, and Michael McDade; granddaughter, Katie MacLeod; and her three brothers and three sisters.

Alma was an avid sports fan. She proudly attended many sports games for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren over the years, and she was one of the Blue Jays’ and Raptors’ biggest fans. She enjoyed going to bingo and doing puzzles. A lady of many talents, Alma was a skilled baker, recognized as one of the “railway pie ladies.” She was also a gifted seamstress and knitter. She generously supported her church and town communities for decades. Most importantly, Alma loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed going on Casino road trips and attending dances, dart nights, and card parties with Bud. She was happiest when the people she loved gathered around her table to enjoy one of her home cooked meals.

Alma’s family would like to thank the responding paramedics and staff at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital for their excellent care.

Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 26, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated from Holy Family Catholic Church, 1500 Hanwell Road, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 11:00 am with Fr. John Jennings as Celebrant. Interment will take place in Rockland Cemetery, McAdam, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Alma’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lakeland Resource Center or a charity of the donor’s choice.
