I was very sorry to hear about Dave’s passing.
I first got to know Dave through Debbie and Dale, and he was always incredibly kind to me. Every memory I have of him involves laughter.
One memory was when he took me golfing in Oromocto for the first time. Now that I golf, I realize what a nightmare that round must have been for him. I was probably hitting the ball everywhere, but he was patient and laughing the whole time—mostly at me.
Another favourite memory that still makes me smile is when we were “borrowing” corn from a farmers field one night. I ran into some strangers in the dark and was convinced it was the farmer. I took off through the field at full speed, leaving everyone behind. Dave laughed so hard about how panicked and scared and fast I ran that it became a running joke every time we saw each other afterward.
I also remember him teaching me to drive a standard. At one point I had the car floored heading onto an off-ramp, and I can still picture Dave hanging onto the door handle telling me to slow down. We survived, and of course ended up laughing about it afterward.
Dave was always good to me, always had a great sense of humor, and always made being around him fun. I’m grateful for the memories and for the way he treated me.
