Obituary of Anne Winifred Simons
It is with great sadness that the family of Anne Winnifred (Bishop) Simons announces her passing on May 25th, 2026.
Anne was born in Alton, England on March 30th, 1942 to parents, Gladys Winnifred (Winnie) Green and Wallace Meldon Bishop. In 1945 she, along with her mother, a young war bride, and infant brother, Garry boarded the HMS Scythia in Liverpool destined for Canada. They arrived at Pier 21 in Halifax in May 1945, and immediately traveled to Saint John, NB to join family.
Six months later, they were joined by her father when he returned home from war. The family lived in Woodstock for several years before settling in Minto. Anne graduated from Minto High School in 1959, and from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1966. Anne was incredibly proud of her nursing career. Throughout the years, she worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Saint John, the Victoria Public Hospital in Fredericton, the Oromocto Hospital, as well as Surf Lodge, the Shelburne Nursing Home and Rose Way Manor in Nova Scotia. She moved back to Fredericton in 2015.
Anne loved to spend time with her family and friends. She had a passion for all genres of music, and it was a rare day indeed when music wasn’t filling her home. She was a collector of old postcards, coins and Fenton glass, and she enjoyed participating in collectors’ clubs in Saint John, NB and Shelbourne County, NS. She also enjoyed knitting, tatting, cross stitch, and keeping up with current events and politics.
Anne was predeceased by her parents, her first husband, Alonzo Connors, her second husband, Gordon Simons, as well as her sisters, Joyce and Valerie Bishop, and niece, Elaine Blythe.
She leaves behind her son, Terry Connors and daughter in law, Jennifer; her sister, Dawn Sharpe (Ken) of Maugerville; brothers, Garry Bishop (Sharon) of London, Ontario, and John Bishop (Colleen) of Cranbrook, BC, as well as several nieces, Robyn Allaby (Keith), Misty Sullivan (Blair), and Dale Upton-Plant (Ed), and great nieces; Michaela Allaby (Logan), Olivia Cormier, and Alex Hancock; nephews, Brooks Chisholm, Steven Sharpe, (Leah), Brian Sharpe (Patricia), Clinton Sharpe (April) and Allan Sharpe (Carole), Chris Sharpe (June) and Andy Sharpe (Caroline), and great nephews; Nicholas Allaby (Maggie), Jack Chisholm and Teagan Chisholm (Marley), and her chosen great granddaughter, Kaelynn Paul. She also leaves behind her dear friend, Mark Wells. She was especially grateful for her Integrity care workers, Ethel, Amina and several others who filled in from time to time.
