Obituary of Linda Jane Barnes

Linda Jane (MacNichol) Barnes passed away peacefully on Friday June 12, 2026 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital.

Born in Blackland, NB, to Arthur and Isabel (Miller) MacNichol, Linda grew up in New Mills and graduated from Dalhousie High School before moving to Fredericton. She attended UNB and then graduated from Teachers’ College.

On March 26, 1959, Linda married Brian and together they had five daughters. Linda taught junior high school mathematics and French, primarily at Albert Street School and St Dunstan’s School before leaving her career to raise her family. She was an active volunteer, devoting many years to the YM/YWCA and United Way. In their retirement, Linda and Brian enjoyed wintering in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and golfing. Linda was also an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing with ‘the Girls’ at the Capital Winter Club.

In addition to her husband, Brian, Linda is survived by her daughters Jean Boudreau (Alan), Brenda Malcolm (Doug), Heather Kyle (Kevin), Leann Wright (Bruce) and Julie Kilcollins (Brad); grandchildren Nicholas Boudreau (Cindy Levesque), Katie Phillips (Mark), Rachel Malcolm, Alex,  Adam (Megan), James (Meghan Daigle Cruise) and Neil Kyle, Annika Wright, Drew, Blake and Cade Kilcollins; six great-grandchildren; her brother Vance MacNichol (Edmonton); and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Linda was predeceased by her sister, Constance Beach; brother-in-law, Duane Beach; and sister-in-law, Nanette MacNichol.

McAdam's Funeral Home has been entrusted with Linda's final arrangements. A funeral service will be held in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Friday, June 19, 2026 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Ellen Beairsto as celebrant. A private family interment will take place at the Fredericton Rural Cemetery at a later date.
