Obituary of Douglas Vernon Wright

It is with sadness that the family of Douglas Vernon Wright announces his passing at home on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the age of 89. Born in Saint John, NB, on June 14, 1937, he was the husband of the late Sandra (Springer) Wright.

Doug leaves behind his children, David Wright (Katy) and Dr. Jennifer Dijkstra (Semme); grandchildren, Sydney Dijkstra and Liam, Andrew, and Ella Wright; sister, Pamela Matthews (Bruce) and his many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Sandra, Doug was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Geraldine Wright; and by his brothers and their spouses, Harvey Wright (Hope) and Peter Wright (Suzanne).

Doug was an accomplished lawyer, beginning his career in private practice before joining the provincial justice department where he served for more than 30 years. Gifted with an irrepressible curiosity, Doug was an avid reader and engaging conversationalist who would often be found talking to family, friends and strangers about the latest advancements of science, technology and a multitude of topics.  Active within his community, Doug was involved with many local organizations including the Rotary Club, Golden Club and a member and former Chair of the Preservation Review Board of Fredericton.  Doug’s greatest joy was his family.  A devoted husband to Sandy, a wonderful father to his children and a sage and enormously proud grandfather, Doug will sorely be missed by all.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral on Saturday, July 11, 2026 at 2 pm. A private interment will be held the following day in Long Reach. For those who wish, donations in Doug’s memory may be made to the restoration fund for Christ Church Cathedral,  https://cccath.ca/give-now-using-canadahelps/.
