Obituary of Gladys Elizabeth Jeffery

On June 17, 2026 we lost our dear friend and relative Gladys Elizabeth Jeffery, known by many as “Jeff”. Born on January 16, 1941, she was the daughter of George and Gladys Isabel (Currie) Jeffery.

After graduating from Fredericton High School and attending Atlantic Business College, Gladys worked for 29 years as a secretary and bookkeeper for Eastern Breeders.

In her leisure time, Gladys and her mom enjoyed many adventurous trips across Canada and the United States, with the younger Gladys doing all the driving. They lived together, and Gladys cared for her mother until her mother’s death in 1997. Gladys then married her first husband, Robert William Clarke, in 1998 and cared for him until he passed in 2010. In 2011 she married Rev. H.W. MacKenzie, who passed in 2017. In 2019, Gladys and David Seheult were married, and Gladys became a welcome member of a family that included David’s daughter Laura, his son Peter (Stephanie), and granddaughter, Julianne.

A kind a gentle person who always saw the best in everyone, Gladys had friends scattered across Canada who kept in touch with her from her school days until her passing. She was active in St. Paul’s United Church, and served as President of the United Church Women’s group. She was also active in the Sir Howard Douglas chapter of the IODE and a long-time member of Photo Fredericton.

In her final years, Gladys received excellent nursing care at Thomas Hall, along with many happy visits from family and friends. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to management and staff of Thomas Hall for the care and kindness they provided to her.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026 in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel in Fredericton, NB, beginning at 11:00 am, with Rev. Richard Bowley officiating. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Gladys will be dearly missed by her many friends and relatives, who will never forget her smile.
