Obituary of Betty Marie True

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Betty Marie True announce her passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on July 11, 2026. Born on January 15, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Audrey (Colwell) True.

Betty will be deeply missed by her sister, Janice Taylor (George) of Fredericton, New Brunswick; her son, Brent True (Cherie) of Fredericton, New Brunswick; her granddaughter, Allison True of Halifax, Nova Scotia; her nieces and nephews, Michael Slater, James Bingham, Lesa Currie, Todd Currie, Rachel Ann Taylor, and Lindsay Taylor; and many other close friends whom she considered family.

In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her sisters, Dianne Slater (Paul) of Keswick, Ontario, Nancy Currie (Frank) of Montreal, Quebec, Anne True of Fredericton, New Brunswick, and her brother Douglas (Carolyn) of Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Betty was born in Woodstock, New Brunswick, and grew up in McAdam before her family settled in Fredericton. She later embarked on an adventure to British Columbia, where she welcomed her son and completed her nursing studies.

Upon returning to Fredericton, Betty worked at the Victoria Hospital and later with MediCare. Nursing was more than a career—it was a calling that reflected her compassionate and caring heart. She often shared stories from her years at the hospital, recalling memorable moments, lasting friendships, and the privilege of caring for others.

Her faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. She found immense joy in worship, especially singing her favourite hymns and worship songs, attending services and prayer meetings, and spending time in fellowship with her church family. She had a special gift of connecting with children and families, making everyone feel loved. Her home was often filled with music and laughter as she graciously hosted worship nights for young adults. Every evening, she faithfully read her Bible, drawing strength and comfort from God’s Word. She lived out her faith through generosity and sharing the love and hope of the Gospel with those around her. Her life was a beautiful reflection of Christ’s love, and her faith will remain one of her legacies. 

Betty cherished the home she lovingly cared for over more than 40 years, where she created a place of beauty and peace. She found joy tending her gardens, listening to birds sing on quiet mornings, and walking her faithful four-legged companions, Sasha and Mika, who brought her endless happiness.

In her later years, Betty faced the challenges of dementia with grace and resilience. She found comfort and companionship at Windsor Court Retirement Residence, where she enjoyed participating in activities, swimming, walking, sharing tea with friends, and embracing the warmth of the community around her.

Above all else, Betty’s greatest joy was her beloved granddaughter, Allison, who brought so much joy and happiness to her life. Together they shared countless adventures - from shopping trips and visits to Green Village, baking cookies and fashion shows. Every moment together was precious, and the love they shared was unmistakable to all who knew them. 

Betty's heart was also made full by many lifelong friends who became family, especially the McMullins, Ashfields, Kiersteads, and her cherished church family. They walked alongside her through every season of life - sharing celebrations and offering unwavering support.

Though Betty’s absence leaves an immeasurable void, her love and faith will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her. 

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Windsor Court Retirement Residence for the compassionate care and kindness Betty received during her final years, and to the dedicated teams in the Emergency Department and 4SW at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital for their exceptional care and support.

To celebrate Betty’s life, a visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm and a memorial service will be held the next day, Thursday, July 16, 2026 at 11:00 am with pastor Keith McMullin and Rev. Gerome MacDonald as celebrants. A private interment will take place at the Sunny Bank Cemetery at a later date.

Donations in Betty’s name made to the SPCA, World Vision, or a charity of your choosing would be appreciated by the family.
