Dear Kathy, Clayton, Chris and Isaac,
You are in our hearts today as you celebrate the amazing life of Uncle Charlie. How lucky the Thornhill family was when he landed in Newfoundland all those years ago and came into the small but mighty family by marrying Aunt May. He was so special in countless ways. He was an uncanny academic (as kids, my sister and I would call him "scary brainy") but he adored his family and was always there to enjoy the simple things of life be it camping in the Boler trailer, picnics, wood working , walking Toby dog or embracing every Thornhill family get together with gusto. He loved his daily "Irish" potatoes, really hot tea and partridgeberry jam. His Irish accent remained despite being in Canada for decades. I can hear him saying "Good heavens!" or "Rubbish!" when something didn't make any logical sense, often to be followed by his lovely laugh. His quest for knowledge never ceased. His family was his greatest gift and for the recent years, his home with you has been his safe harbour for which he was eternally grateful. Uncle Charlie will be missed beyond measure but our hope is that he is now at peace. Much love, Pam, David, Malcolm and Heidi
