Obituary of Elizabeth Margaret Woods

It is with deep sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of our dear mother, Elizabeth Margaret Woods, on Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton, NB.

Elizabeth was the beloved wife of the late William F. Woods; cherished mother of Susan (Scott) Kryski of Regina, SK, and Natasha Woods (Troy Johnston) of Oromocto, NB; and doting grandmother of Mark (Leah) Kryski of Regina, SK, and Scottie Kryski of New Westminster, BC.

Born and raised in Kinkora, PEI, Elizabeth was born on June 5, 1931, the youngest child of the late John A. Smith and Ethel (McCabe) Smith of Kinkora, PEI. She was predeceased by her brothers, Raymond (the late Elaine) Smith of Kinkora and Justin Smith of Kinkora, and her sister, Dorothy (the late Richard) Strobl of Victoria, BC.

She was also predeceased by her parents-in-law, Joseph and Mary Woods of Deep Brook, NS; brothers- and sisters-in-law Joseph (the late Gerda) Woods of Toronto, ON, James Woods of Deep Brook, NS, and Charlie (the late Alvina) Woods of Kentville, NS; and Alice (the late Robert) Fudge of Hammonds Plains, NS, Agnes (the late Michael) Owens of Kamloops, BC, and Betty (the late Marvin “Mitch”) Mitchell of Deep Brook, NS.

Elizabeth is survived by her sisters-in-law, Rita (the late Carl) Burrell and Monica (the late Ken) Peach, both of Kingston, NS, and her brother-in-law, Leo (the late Karen) Woods of Deep Brook, NS. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews across Canada and Australia.

Elizabeth and Bill spent many years living in Ottawa, where she enjoyed working as a Staffing Officer with the Public Service Commission of Canada. They later moved to Regina for a few years before settling in Fredericton, where they eventually retired.

Both Elizabeth and Bill were avid golfers and travellers, and Elizabeth was always actively involved as a volunteer in her daughters’ many activities. A voracious reader, she enthusiastically followed daily global news and political developments. Elizabeth was also a long-time parishioner of St. Dunstan’s Church.

The family extends a special thank you to the caring staff of 4SE at DECRH, as well as the staff at Brunswick Hall and her lovely first-floor neighbours, for their kindness and support.

A private family funeral will be held at St. Dunstan’s Church, followed by interment at the Hermitage Catholic Cemetery on Friday, September 4, 2026. Donations in Elizabeth’s memory to St. Mary Magdalene Parish are gratefully welcomed.
