Obituary of Jean Alice DeWitt
The family of Jean Alice (McLean) DeWitt, beloved wife of the late Robert “Bob” DeWitt, announce her passing on September 23, 2026, at Hospice House in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Born in Coal Creek, NB on May 5, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Weldon and Elsie (Doherty) McLean.
Jean was a hard worker and always dedicated to a job well done. At a young age, she moved to Fredericton and began her career at the Hartt Shoe Factory. Later, she worked with the Food Services Department at University of New Brunswick, until the age of 65.
She and her husband spent their retirement years together enjoying time in their new home and adventuring to many places with their RV, as well as travelling to various singing events around the province with friends.
Some would say she was passionate about shopping but only if it was a ‘good find’ and preferred if it was at a place that came with the titles of Thrift, Garage, or Yard Sale. She was a keen and avid bargain hunter and could spot a sign a thousand miles away (even if it disappointingly didn’t say any of the key words that she hoped for).
She genuinely loved people with all her heart. Her ‘Faith, Family, and Friends’ were what she valued the most in life. She cared deeply for those that she loved and had a way to engage with anyone of any age. Most especially of late was her sweet little ‘grand nephew’ Theo, who has brought her a ton of joy over the past two years. He was the last little heart that brought her precious memories in the final few days of her wonderful life journey. Two precious hearts sharing a moment of smiles and love to last through the ages.
Jean is survived by her much-loved and devoted daughter, Brenda Lee Savoie, and forever adored Nanny to her grandson, Gabriel Savoie (Abby). She was also loved by her stepchildren, Karen Miner (Robert), Robbie DeWitt (Valerie), and Cindy DeWitt (Kevin), and lovingly referred to as “Nannie Jean” by step-grandchildren Colby DeWitt (Jillian), and Kendra Miner (James), as well as step-great grandchildren, Brexton, and Bowen. She is further survived by her brother, Raymond McLean (Dawn); brother-in-law, Sterling Stewart; sister-in-law, Treva McLean, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband Bob, she is predeceased by an infant sister, Carolyn; brother, Ralph McLean, and sister, Joyce Stewart.
The family would like to thank the staff at the North Minto Senior Residence for all the wonderful support, care, and new friendships that were made during her stay there.
To the Hospice House staff and every sweet precious member that makes this ‘House’ a Home of rest, please know that there are truly no words that can express the gratitude that is felt for all of the care that was shown to Jean and family. Thank you for all that you do.
Friends may visit with the family at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, with a service to celebrate her life immediately after visitation, in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel, with pastor Chris Price to officiate. For those unable to attend the service, a livestream will be available at the following link: https://vimeo.com/event/6227227.
A special thanks to Corey McAllister for organizing the music. Jean will be interred in the United Church Cemetery in Chipman, NB following the service. For those who wish to remember Jean by way of a memorial donation, the family suggests donating to Hospice House or a charity of the donor’s choice.
