To Murray's family, I was saddened to hear of Murray's passing. I knew him through UNB where I worked for 40 years. He was a very nice fella and I do remember his dry wit. Always seemed to have a smile. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Terry Arnold

Dear Linton Family, I wish to express my sincere condolences at Murray's sudden passing. I met Murray soon after I came to UNB to set up and administer the University's first Audio Visual Services department in the early 1970's. Murray was a technician in the Psychology department at that time with responsibilities for the Arts Faculty's language lab in Kierstead Hall. Murray turned out to be a clever and resourceful ally as we worked with faculty in non-language departments to encourage the use and production of audio teaching materials available to students via the lab's audio equipment. In the late 80's the Language Lab became the Media Lab as microcomputers came on the scene and, again, Murray was instrumental in their implementation. During the 1990's Multimedia became a reality, based largely on Apple Computer's ability to combine graphics, sound and video in classroom presentations. Again, Murray's knowledge, curiosity, and invention were invaluable to UNB. Eventually, when the Eaton Multimedia Centre was created in D'Avray Hall, Murray moved his office into the new Centre with us and began his multimedia teaching which he continued for over 20 years. Murray was a unique personality with a sharp sense of humour and a mind that was always learning and eager to share knowledge. I know I express the feelings of so many he worked with at UNB when I say he will be missed; remembered fondly and with gratitude.

We are very saddened to learn of Murray's death. I was a member of the Psychology Department during the time when Murray was our technician. I worked closely with him for years and was always impressed with his brilliant analysis and solutions to design problems in the research projects we conducted. He was definitely "cutting edge" - always on top of the latest technology but was also willing to go well beyond the technology to look at the philosophical and social aspects of the work we did! I recall a "flashbulb moment" memory in 1994 when Murray informed me about the latest new development called the World Wide Web! I recall that day his forecast for what the WWW would mean for society and he was right in every detail! We were so lucky to have Murray's brilliant contributions to further our research. As others have noted, we enjoyed Murray's wonderful sense of humour and dry wit. He went on to a great career as a professor in Media Studies and i'm sure that many students have benefitted from his talents. Rest in peace my friend.

Murray taught me so much about computers and technology. He was my mentor for the last 31 years of my working life at UNB. He always made me feel that my opinions mattered ant that I had much to offer the University and to my position as Manager of the Multimedia Lab. He would visit my office daily and we would have discussions about any topic or current event of the day. Although we did not always agree with each other, he was one of the most interesting and intelligent people I've known. He loved and respected his students bringing out the most of their potential. He will be dearly missed. RIP my friend.

Dearest Murray--he was always there to help. Through the years I would seek his help in the media lab. His quiet and calm nature always made us feel welcome when we were students and after. Rest in peace Murray.
